All 18 Things I’ve Tried to Cure my Severe Eczema
After living as a walking experiment, trying desperately (and spending outrageously – the severity of my eczema is directly correlated to the size of my credit card bill) to cure my severe eczema every day, I started to put together this very long list of all the things I’ve tried to cure my super severe eczema.
There are numerous tips embedded in the posts here on what to do when, and on what worked for me when, and so on.
Consider the below a checklist in dealing with severe eczema. My pain is your gain.
Please note, if you make it through the posts here and still have severe eczema, email me at scratchingismyhobby at gmail dot com (written this way to avoid bots). I want you to help me write this blog! We’re in this together.
This post starts with the relatively obvious and gets into the highly un-obvious and quite “out there” (ever heard of a medical intuitive?).
This blog quickly gets past the obvious and what much of the internet will tell you, though, i.e. “figure out your mental and physical triggers and avoid them!” (because duh) and “stop scratching!” because, if only.
Items 16, 17, and 18 are where I start to get a little more “woo woo.” You might call this the “total desperation” section of this blog. This is where I start to describe all of the frankly crazy things I’ve tried towards curing my severe eczema. I’ve tried to order everything below from least to most “crazy.”
There’s much more detail in each of these posts. I hope this is helpful to you.
The complete (and growing) list of everything I’ve tried to cure my severe eczema:
- Prescription medications, including Dupixent
- Seemingly every lotion, ever
- Contact allergen testing & removing fragrances
- Wet wrapping
- Many, many different diets
- Speaking with a therapist
- Addressing my presumed “root cause”: allergies
- Various baths, and swimming
- Hot/Cold Immersion therapy
- Light therapy
- Seeing a naturopath
- Acupuncture, Acupressure & Traditional Chinese Medicine Herbs
- Cannabis: THC & CBD
- Ayurveda
- “Other natural products” (lots in here)
- Getting my copper IUD removed
- Hypnotism
- Seeing a medical intuitive
Why trust me?
Why trust me? I’ve been through the wringer, and I’m trying so hard, like you, to find the root cause of and cure for my severe eczema. I keep this list updated with my latest explorations in curing it.
My general advice? While it’s hard to work through this list slowly (you want to be cured as quickly as you can), I’ve learned changing too much at once can be super detrimental. I learned this the hard way in my work with my first naturopathic doctor. So, try one thing at a time, ideally for at least 30 days. And, use topical steroids or whatever your doctor has recommended on your worst patches to keep yourself sane while experimenting.
Note: none of the above have cured my eczema or caused it to recede greatly, though some things, like acupuncture, for example, have worked better for me in treating (and at least coping with) my eczema than have others.
(Hilariously, my dad who also had severe eczema through his late twenties swears it went away when he was in a period of effectively eating only highly processed junk food.) That’s not on the list above, but if it worked for you, too, I want to hear from you! Please email me with your feedback, suggestions & corrections, things that worked for you, things you hated, etc. as well at scratchingismyhobby at gmail dot com (written in this way to prevent bots).
I would love to hear from you!
Happy scratching.
